About the Event
Angie and Leann have watched as the healthcare community and others were impacted by the pandemic and recognize the lingering effects that will continue to affect all people when the pandemic subsides. They bring with them an understanding of the suffering people have endured and a purpose to help others to restore some personal peace. The pandemic has activated real and perceived threats and dangers in everyone’s environment, stimulating the amygdala – the part of the brain designed to deal with distress. The “amygdala hijack” causes “fight-flight or freeze” behaviors. Unrelenting pandemic stress can accumulate, coalescing into a force that turns the distress switch to the “on” position just as sudden trauma does. This session provides evidence-based self-compassioning tools that can change personal and professional practice. Attendees will learn how self-compassioning tools empower staff to respond to pandemic distress and will discover the healing role of “pandemic forgiveness”.
